Uniküla (German Unnikul) is the name of a village (Estonian küla) in the Estonian rural community Õru in Valga county. Location and history Edit source text

Uniküla has 50 inhabitants (as of 2005). The village is located 16 kilometers from the Estonian-Latvian border town Valga (walk). The River Väike-Emajõgi (Kleiner Embach) flows through Uniküla.

During the Soviet occupation of Estonia there was a rocket base of the Red Army. There were strategic medium-range missiles stationed.

The most famous son of the place is the Estonian lyricist Friedrich Kuhlbars (1841-1924). On the site of the former school building, where he was born, today stands a memorial stone. The schoolhouse had burned down in 1856. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
