United Provinces Agra and Awadh
संयुक्त प्रान्त आगरा व अवध (अंग्रेजी: United Provinces of Agra and Oudh; उच्चारण: यूनाईटेड प्राॅविन्सेज़ ऑफ ऐग्रा ऐण्ड औध) ब्रिटिश भारत में स्वाधीनता से पूर्व एकीकृत प्रान्त का नाम था जो 22 मार्च 1902 को आगरा व अवध नाम की दो प्रेसीडेंसी को मिलाकर बनाया गया था। उस समय सामान्यतः इसे संयुक्त प्रान्त (अंग्रेजी में यू॰पी॰) के नाम से भी जानते थे। यह संयुक्त प्रान्त लगभग एक शताब्दी 1856 से 1947 तक अस्तित्व में बना रहा। इसका कुल क्षेत्रफल वर्तमान भारतीय राज्यों उत्तर प्रदेश और उत्तराखण्ड के संयुक्त क्षेत्रफल के बराबर था। जिसे आजकल उत्तर प्रदेश या अंग्रेजी में यू॰पी॰ कहते हैं उसमें ब्रिटिश काल के दौरान रामपुर, उत्तरकाशी व टिहरी और गढ़वाल जैसी स्वतन्त्र रियासतें भी शामिल थीं। 25 जनवरी 1950 को भारतीय संविधान की घोषणा से एक दिन पूर्व सरदार बल्लभ भाई पटेल ने इन सभी रियासतों को मिलाकर इसे उत्तर प्रदेश नाम दिया था।

History
By the 18th century in India, the large Mughal empire of one time was being demolished due to internal conflicts. The first Deputy Governor (lieutenant governor) of Agra and Awadh was jointly formed by the two presidencies of Agra and Awadh, on 22 March 1902, Sir James John Digges La Touche (English: Sir James John Digges La Touche). From 3 January 1921 the state became a part of British India and Sir Spencer Harkort Butler (English: Sir Spencer Harcourt Butler) was appointed its first Governor (Governor). From 1 April 1937, it began to be called the United States or the United States. On 1 April 1946, it was declared an autonomous province and Govind Ballabh Pant became its first Chief Minister. This was done by the British under the arrangement of the temporarily interim government for the transfer of power to the Indian National Congress. From August 15, 1947, Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was declared the Chief Minister of the Autonomous Province of the U.P. declared by the British Government. Its last governor was Sir Francis Werner Willie (English: Sir Francis Verner Wylie). On 15th August 1947, it was made a part of the independent India.
