The Bear (ópera)


The Bear: An Extravaganza in One Act is an opera in an act with William Walton's music and Paul Dehn's libretto in English, based on the work The bear of Anton Chéjov. Composed by commission of Sergei Kusevitski and dedicated to his memory, it premiered June 3, 1967 at the Jubilee Hall of Aldeburgh.

It is an opera little represented at present; in the statistics of Operabase appears with only five representations in the period 2005-2010, being nevertheless the most represented of Walton.
