The third edition of the Maneuver Championship, the highest competition of Basque pelota in the first professional category, was held in 1944, organized by the Spanish Basque Pelota Federation.

On this occasion the number of registered up to 16 players has increased. For the development of the championship two groups were formed, one of aspirants, with a total of 10, and another of aces, with 6 pelotaris. The first two of the group of candidates, Cortabitarte and Zurdo de Mondragón, became part of the group of aces. This group of final aspirants to the txapela, in turn was subdivided into two groups, in which were Athean VII and Gallastegui. The first two of these groups, Atano VII and Felipe, disputed the semifinal, waiting for the winner of the same the champion Atano III.

When Atano VII again qualified for the semifinal, it was decided that the final would not be disputed, playing the title to two matches: the semi-final in which Atano VII defeated Felipe and the final in which his brother and title defender Atano III won Felipe again. The score of both parties elucidated that Atano III was the champion, Atano VII was declared runner-up, and Felipe third placed.
