Mariano Espina


Mariano Espina was an Argentine military, expeditionary of the Conquest of the Desert, that reached the degree of Colonel. He was a follower of Leandro Alem, one of the military leaders of the Revolution of the Park in 1890 and the Revolution of 1893. He was founder of the Civic Union and the Civic Radical Union. In the Revolution of 1893 he was sentenced to death by a military court in a trial that lasted only one day. The case produced a famous debate on the death penalty. The sentence was commuted by the President of the Nation.

It is buried in the Pantheon of the Fallen in the Revolution of the Park that is in the Recoleta Cemetery. Bibliography
