Jorge del Castillo Gálvez


Jorge Alfonso Alejandro del Castillo Gálvez (born July 2, 1950 in Lima) is a Peruvian lawyer and politician. He is a member and since 1999 Secretary General of the Peruvian Party APRA. Jorge Del Castillo studied law at the National University of San Marcos, Lima, from 1968 to 1974. From 1984 to 1986 Del Castillo was mayor of Barranco, a municipality of Limas. In 1985, he was appointed prefect of the province of Lima, two years later he was elected mayor of the city. He held office until 1989.

Del Castillo interrupted his political career and studied constitutional law from 1993 to 1994 at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. In 1995, he was elected as a deputy, Limas, to the Peruvian Congress. Since 1999, Del Castillo has been Secretary General of APRA.

After the victory of Alan Garcías in the presidential elections, Del Castillo was named Prime Minister of Peru in July 2006.
