Burgwall Hohenbüssow

The Burgwall Hohenbüssow is a Slavic castle wall in the municipality of Alt Tellin in the district of Vorpommern-Greifswald. The ground monument is located about 1500 meters southeast of the village on the edge of the Hohenbussow forest. The Slavs used a terrain spur on the Tollensetal for the installation of their hidden Höhenburg. Today there is no direct route to the Burganlage. The castle plateau has an oval floor plan of approximately 80 x 50 m. The height of the plateau to the lower lying environment is six to seven meters. The slopes are very steep and have probably been artificially reinforced by humans. An access gate is not clearly localized, but the plateau in the east is the flattest. Here the access will have been located. Since the Wall is today in the forest and surrounded by further mountain peaks and deep shards, it could not be used for agricultural purposes and is therefore very well preserved. Exactly north of the Old Slavian castle hill is another unpaved mountain spur, which also carries wall remains. It is assumed that both plants were a kind of double castle and existed in the 7th to 9th century. Ceramic finds of the Feldberg merchandise date both castles into this period.
