Book of Records

The Book of Records is a fictional manuscript that appears in the novel The Lord of the Rings, by the British writer J. R. R. Tolkien. It was a diary that was in the Chamber of Mazarbul of Khazad-dûm. It was written primarily by Óin, Balin and Ori when in 2989 T. E. set out to reoccupy the mines of Moria. It is written in oestron, although the writing system was alternating between tengwar and runes in Erebor or Moria mode. Gandalf found him, passing the Ring Community by Khazad-dûm, next to Balin's tomb.

The first pages contained records of the achievements in Khazad-dûm during rehabilitation by a certain dwarf contingent. The last ones narrate from the first quarrels with the orcs to the last and anguished moments of the end of the dwarven troops at the hands of the balrog and battalions of orcs and trolls of the caves. At the end of the reading Gandalf gave it to Gimli to give it to Dáin. Then the Fellowship of the Ring was attacked by those same battalions.
