In September 1975, the first district of Haryana came into being as Sirsa Nagar on the railroad on Bathinda-Rewari and at Delhi-Phazilka National Highway No. 10. The name of the district of Sirsa is derived from the name of its principal Sirsa. It is believed that Sirsa district is one of the oldest districts in northern India.
