The dayereh (or doyra, dojra, dajre, doira, dajreja), also called ghaval, is a medium-sized frame drum with rattles, used in Iran (Persia), the Balkans, and many Asian countries Such as Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, to accompany both popular and classical music. Frame drums are also popular in numerous regions of Georgia, such as Kartli, Kajetia, Tusheti, Samegrelo, Racha, and Imereti. This is a single head percussion instrument that is not only found in northern South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, but also in parts of the Russian polar regions.This simple drum is a stretched skin , glued and tied with pieces of cloth to a wooden hoop. It is similar to the Persian daira and the Turkish def. Some dairas also have attached pieces of metal that give them a tambourine-like sound.
