David Santsalvador

David Santsalvador (Nice, France, 1909 - Front of the Ebro, 1938), whose real name was Desiré Santsalvador, was a French cartoonist.

A member of the Artistic Circle of Sant Lluc (since 1930), he devoted himself to drawing professionally since 1932. He was part of a group called Associació dels Idealistes Pràctics and collaborated as a press illustrator in several publications with a synthetic and precise style ("La Humanitat", "L'Instant", "The Universal News", "Solidaridad Obrera", "Brisas", "Clarisme", "Nova Ibèria", "La Rambla", ...). He made a large gallery of drawings of Catalan characters of his time, charcoal, which does not detract from previous series similar to those of Ramon Casas or Ferran Calicó. The bulk of his drawings are preserved in the Library of Catalonia. Mobilized by the Civil War, he died in the front.

The David Santsalvador Fund is preserved in the Library of Catalonia Sources
