Spanish language
The Spanish language (español Español / Castellano Castellano) is a language coming to the romance branch of the Indo-European language family. It is one of the most spoken languages of the world. About 40 million people speak Spanish as a native language. As a second language, some 60 million people speak Spanish and as a foreign language, approximately two million speakers speak Spanish. Spanish (after Mandarin and English), is the third most spoken language in the world.

The most popular second language spoken by native speakers of American-English is Spanish. From the last decades of the 20th century, the study of Spanish as a foreign language has increased quite a lot. Since the 21st century, it has definitely become the second most studied language after English.

History
The Spanish language has evolved from rude Latin (colloquial Latin language), which was brought to the BC 210 by the Romans in the Iberian Peninsula. The written standard of 10 Spanish was developed in Toledo in the 13th century. In 1492, Gramática de la lengua castellana, written by Elio Antonio de Nabrija, written in Salamanca, was the first grammar book written for a modern European language. According to the United States 2006 Census, there were 4.43 million people Hispanic or Latin American origin in the US population. Of the population above 5 years old, 3.83 million (13 percent) of the population speak Spanish at home. Spanish is the second most widely taught second language ever. After Mexico, now America has become the second most Spanish-speaking country in the world.

In Africa, Spanish, Equatorial Guinea is official. Spanish is also an official language of the African Union.
