Seditious Meetings Act
The Law of Seditious Meetings passed by the British Parliament in November 1795 was the second law of the well-known movement known as the two acts. Its purpose is to limit the size of public sessions to fifty people. A judge's permission is also required to give lectures or open discussion rooms where admission is charged and policy discussion.
This law was sponsored by Prime Minister William Pitt (the Youth) in order to combat the spread of ideas promoted by the French Revolution. Notes
